2024 Electrician Apprentice Applications

for classes beginning September of 2025

Applications for 2025 classes will be opening June 1 and closing August 30, 2024.

Items you will need to gather for your Appointment to Complete an Application

  1. OFFICIAL High School Transcript (this is not a COPY), you can get this by reaching out to your High School and requesting an Official Transcript, it will be sealed in an envelope.
    1. If you have your GED (State Dept. of Education) you will need the documentation that shows percentages in each subject.
  2. Copy of your Birth Certificate
  3. Copy of your Driver’s License
  4. $40.00 Application Fee CASH, CHECK, or MONEY ORDER ONLY
  5. Any MASS Certified School or Work hours in the Trade.

Those in the Military also provide a DD-214 to Verify Military Training/Experience.

The Aptitude Test will be administered in the fall of 2024 by the JATC.

 

All applications are to be completed in person by appointment only.

General Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age at time of selection and indenture (minimum of 17 years to apply)
  • Meet minimum math requirements - one full year of school algebra with a passing grade or an equivalent post high school algebra course with passing grade.
  • High school graduate, or have GED, in lieu of high school diploma or GED have two-year Associates Degree or higher.
  • Provide an official transcript for: high school (year or years completed); GED (from State Dept. of Education); or post high school education and training. Note: Associated high school transcripts must also be submitted with GED.
  • Submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience for consideration of such training/experience. 
  • Have a qualifying score on the electrical trade's aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research. (This test will be administered fall of 2024 by the JATC)
  •  Copy of a valid Driver’s license
  •  Copy of your Birth Certificate
  • $40.00 application fee payable in Cash, Check or Money Order only.
  • Any Ma. Certified school or work hours in the trade.
  •  Must reside in Southeastern Ma. or Cape Cod and Islands area.

Admission Requirements of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee:

Selection of entrants to the Apprenticeship Program is made on qualification alone without regard to race, creed, gender, age, color, or national origin and based on an oral interview of those who meet the minimum qualifications.

The industry’s needs determine the number of apprentices accepted into the Program at the time.

Initial drug screening is required of all who are selected to enter the apprenticeship and are subject to annual and random testing.

Terms of Apprenticeship Training:

• Length - 4 Years Night School / minimum of 8000 hours on-the-job training

• Related classroom instruction / minimum of 225 hours per year (Sept-May)

• CPR/First Aid and OSHA training

• Indentured to the Brockton Electricians Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee and assigned to an electrical contractor signatory to IBEW Local 223.

• Starting pay - 40% of the Journeyman wage

• Probationary period is 1000 hours OJT or 6 months and also successful completion of  related classroom training

• Wage increases determined by advance in period based on satisfactory on-the-job and classroom performance

• College credit for related classroom instruction

Pay increases of 3-5% of the Journeyman level rate of pay every 1000hrs commensurate with satisfactory academic and on-the-job performance.
